Newton Abbot is the leading sumer jumping racecourse in the UK. It covers a 91 acre site which was purchased and established in 1866.  Newton Abbot has a full racing calender throughout the year with meetings on various days, evenings and weekends(for a full list of fixtures visit
These regular racing meetings have only ever been brought to a holt twice by the outbreak of the two World Wars. In the 1914-1918 war, the racecourse was occupied by troops and used as a Prisoner of War camp.  During the Second World War only one days racing was held until peace was declared. The end of the war was celebrated with a huge crowd of 17,500 on August Bank Holiday in 1946.

In 1969 the main grandstand was built which was opened by the Queen Mother.  The Racecourse's corporate facilities were opened in 1990 and extended in 1995.
